Rock ‘n’ Chips Charity dance night – Saturday 28th July 2012

(Biddulph Festival Closing Night) at Biddulph Town Hall

A Jumpin’ Jiving evening of general dancing, hosted by dancebespoke with live music from the Jalapenos and entertainment. The success of the evening and generous discount on the food meant that a huge £896.20 was raised in aid of Douglas Macmillan, Hospice at Home.

Rock ‘n’ Chips (28th July 2012) raises £££££ for Charity!

Following on from Dancebespokes dance workshops throughout the Biddulph Festival, this event was a complete sell out. The room was packed with spectators and keen dancers, showing off their 50’s outfits as well as their moves! The dance demonstrations from Melinda Howarth & Jacob Jones and energetic live music from “The Jalapenos” ensured a lively atmosphere all night. Toes were tapping and jaws were dropping as they watched this dynamic band play guitars over their heads, and the drum kit as it rolled across the stage.

Rachel & Steve Brandreth from dancebespoke remarked on the turn out and high number of entrants: “Good luck to all 24 couples who have entered. And thank you to those of you who have travelled far especially to be here tonight.” The evenings adjudicator and fellow dance professional, Madeline Brennan was welcomed to the floor as organisers remarked that she “had a tough job ahead of her”. Biddulph’s dancers readied themselves for the Jive Competition and the music kicked in.

On lookers were dazzled by displays of Modern Jive, Lindy Hop, Ceroc, Ballroom Jive and also some original moves during three rounds of this exciting competition, before an energetic final. Then it was up to the crowd who voted for their favourite couples. The evenings results and prizes were as follows:

Before the evenings dancing continued, a well earned Fish and Chip supper was served from Biddulph Fish Bar. The room was served 150 portions at an impressive pace, and everyone contentedly tucked in. The evening drew to a close by the Festival Comittee thanking everyone for the support and attendance, and to everyone who had pitched in to organise such a wonderful evening. When the crowd were asked “Shall we do the same next year?”, the response was a resounding and immediate “YEEESSSSSS” that raised the roof.
